A man came to Sayyidah
‘Aaisha (رضي اللهُ عنها) and
asked, “When will I know that I am pious?”
And she (رضي اللهُ عنها) said,
“When you realize that you are a sinner.”
He said, “When will I know I am a sinner?” She (رضي اللهُ عنها) replied, “When you think you are pious.” (Tanbeehul Ghaafileen, pg. 251)
